Rhondda Radio was launched back in 2007 as part of an RCT Community Radio Project as Radio Cwmni, which later became Rhondda Radio in 2011. It's the only one of the three stations under the project to remain on air to this day.

After moving between homes, the station has found a secure location in the Treorchy & Cwmparc Boys & Girls Club and a second studio at Too Good To Waste, ensuring easy access to volunteering by all of its team members.

Rhondda Radio is run entirely by volunteers, broadcasting a wide variety of programmes from Jazz to Rock, alongside specialist programmes covering Welsh Language and Faith-Based content. Roadshows continue to play a big part in the station's work, as it supports local groups and charities with their events, mostly free of charg,e to improve community cohesion and connections.

Key Highlights:

• Launched on DAB to make its service accessible via Digital Radio
• Hosted multiple local events, including two fireworks displays and the Treorchy Christmas Parade, supporting it in growing to be one of Wales’ premier Christmas parades.
• Secured Community Show of the Year at the 2024 Community Radio Awards for its weekly history programme, funded by the Rhondda Heritage Project through a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund Cymru
• Created a new Rhondda Heritage Trail with partners, with twelve stations at significant historical sites
