Hospital Radio Glamorgan began life in 1967 at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary (CRI).

The station then moved to the current home at the University Hospital of Wales in 1974 and for a few decades, the studios were housed within the basement.

After extensive fundraising in 1999, we moved to where you can see us on the main thoroughfare (Just up from the main UHW concourse) and have been there ever since!

In 2019, the studio was named after John Wilce, a dedicated volunteer at the station for 15 years who died after a short illness a year before.

Output of the station is focused on health and well-being and as of March 2026 has 60 hours of live programming delivered entirely by volunteers and overseen by a board of trustees that are voted in and ratified by all at an Annual General Meeting held during the first quarter of each year.

The station is a registered charity (504534) where fundraising is key. Income is generated through bucket collections at supermarkets across the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan area, alongside organising events that everyone can attend.

• In February 2026, launched on DAB across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan
• In 2020 has been supporting the development of the sports journalism course at University of South Wales through a 1-hour programme broadcast on a Friday evening
• Multi-award winners, and has been shortlisted in the station of the year category consecutively for the last 10 years
• 35 active volunteers, some of whom have gone on to work within BBC and commercial radio
